This book is very readable that if you follow Mr. Page's advice, you can write good policies and procedures that people will accept and follow. A great book for current or potential writers of policies and procedures. |

AuditNet - Review on "Establishing a System of Policies and Procedures" |
In my opinion this is a must book for every auditor’s professional library. It will come in handy both for use within the audit department as well as a source recommendation for clients that have to develop policies and procedures. The book walks the user through the thinking process starting from why there is a need for policies and procedures, methods for researching subject areas, how to manage forms, writing format and style, getting the documents approved, distribution and training. If the author stopped there it would have been more than we could have ever expected on the subject. But Mr. Page continues by covering the subject of putting the manual online. Internet technology has become an integral part of organizational internal communication. |
Business Forms Management Association (BFMA) - Review of "Establishing a System of Policies and Procedures" |
Page, who has won two national forms contests and produced more than 6000 forms, both printed and electronic, in his career draws from his considerable experience and business expertise to help policies and procedures personnel navigate the various decisions that must be made in implementing an efficient system. He explains how to determine a review and approval process, choose a writing format and style, package the manual and train employees on the use of the policies and procedures. |
International Association for Human Resource Information Management (IHRIM) - Review of "Achieving 100% Compliance of Policies and Procedures" |
The author has had extensive experience in producing policies and procedures to help employers meet requirements for ISO certification and he has served as the chair for the Standards Manual Committee for the Business Forms Management Association (BFMA). This experience shows throughout this very helpful and informative book. |

Simplifies a complex task. I borrowed my copy of this outstanding book when I was tasked to write policies and procedures for my department. Although other reviewers have recommended reading the author's earlier books if you've never written policies and procedures I was able to quickly produce detailed documents that my staff assured me were clear and effective. I attribute my success to the easy way to follow steps that Mr. Page gives, and the logical structure that he recommends.
You can't go wrong if you use this book as a guide for policy and procedure writing. It's like a cookbook in many ways with a clearly laid out recipe for success and a list of ingredients that will be required in the form of steps and item blocks for your documents.

A must have for any procedure analyst. These four books are clear, concise and easy to follow, whether you are starting from nothing or you are bringing you current policies and procedures up to standard. These books are a must read for the procedures analyst and for the CEO who believes in continual improvement. |

Precise and concise policy & procedure style guide. The format that Stephen Page lays out is concise and allows for "precision writing" by giving the author of any policy or procedure the appropriate building blocks that such a document should have. Now in the Sarbanes Oxley era the need to document internal controls - and the policies and procedures that frame those - can be documented in an easy to use, standardized format that reduces wordiness and makes the writer, reader, and user focus on what is really important - the content. Great job Stephen! |

Thank you Mr. Page! About two years ago, it was determined that to survive in the aerospace business my company would have to get ISO 9000 qualification. Each department head was informed that he/she would be responsible for DOP's. And SOP's within their group. Not being a writer, panic set in - how do you write an effective non-ambiguous procedure? Then I came across Mr. Page's book. It walked me through step by step on how to write procedures correctly. My co-workers followed these guidelines as well. I think in some respects his book helped get us through our ISO audit. By the way, the section on the Intranet helped our sales force in the field. We now send via Intranet DOP's related to the sales force for review and signature. Mr. Page's book is clear and concise. It is just what a busy person with limited time like myself was looking for in a "how to" book. |
Allan Bosward (Denver, Colorado) - Review of "Achieving 100% Compliance of Policies and Procedures" |
An Excellent "Friendly" Guide to Policies and Procedures. Steve uses an excellent "write as we speak" approach to portraying methods in writing effective corporate policies and procedures. This adds to a subject matter which can otherwise be dry and uninteresting. Of special note is Steve's use of examples, pitfalls, and approaches to concepts in which Steve has had obvious experience. This is a must read for HR personnel, especially those in pre-IPO companies hoping to support evolving corporate direction by educating employees with clear, concise instructions on their corporation's way of accomplishing internal and external goals and objectives. |

Daunting Task Made Simple! Recently I was assigned the task of setting up a procedures and policies program at my company. Someone had mentioned Mr. Page's "7 Steps to Better Written Policies and Procedures." I noticed that he had a series of four books so I thought I would start with the first in the series, "Establishing a System of Policies and Procedures" to see if it would be of benefit to me. This is an amazing book. Mr. Page shows an easy way to write policies and procedures for printed and electronic company manuals. While he develops most of his writing to printed matter, he correctly points out that the SAME PRINCIPLES APPLY to electronic matter as they do to printed matter. He also points out you must crawl before you walk, that is, you must understand the manual approach before moving into the electronic methods. |

Right on target. Stephen Page's book is exactly what our company needed to help us reorganize and revise our policies and procedures manual. The book supplies an easy to follow system and the author provides rationale and suggestions which greatly enhance the usability of the book. |

Blew my mind and my procedures. These books are absolutely incredible. Mr. Page is a God of procedures and policies. I write policies and procedures for a company that writes policies and procedures for improving other companies' policies and procedures. He makes so clear and concise about policies and procedures and about policies on procedures and procedures on policies. Thanks Dr. P, you have a true gift from God. Some people are good at writing about policies, and some about procedures, but you're a double treat. You're like the Bo Jackson of policies and procedures. Keep up the great work, and I look forward to future books, cuz I want to buy everything you write! |

Excellent book and very well written. I found this book to be exactly what I had been looking for. It contains all of the information that I need for my job, to be successful. I found that the WRITING STYLE is welcomed because this author writes in a personal manner. I felt like I was a part of the book. I love this wonderful book. I just can't say enough. I have bought an additional 20 books for the managers of my company. |

Great resource for starting from scratch. I just took a job as an operations analyst at a small startup company. Rather than handing me a policy and procedures manual, my boss asked me to write one instead! With only vague notions of what a policy or procedure manual even looks like, I tried to get started on my own but quickly realized that I was in over my head. However, after reading Mr. Page's books, I was able to use his methods and ideas for writing general policies and procedures. So "If you are starting from scratch on a new manual or editing one, check into Mr. Page's books first. |

Quality Book about Writing Policies and Procedures. As a quality professional of 20 years, this was a great book and I was happy to see that the American Society of Quality gave it such a great review. It has wonderful content and helps me with research, writing, and communication. I have already used it twice to my success. I like the book especially because it is short and not full of fluff...you don't get bored and you stay focused. Thanks Steve. |

Writing Exceptional Policies and Procedures - Much More than the Author Advertises
Stephen Page’s Writing exceptional policies and procedures, is very similar in subject coverage and writing style to his four published books. Compare with books by other authors on the subject, this book has the most comprehensive coverage about issues and the application of allied disciples that support developing and implementing P&P in organizations. The content of this book far exceeds what the title proclaims. Most of the book is NOT about writing P&P. It's about the role, development, and implementation of P&P in organizations in concept and in practice, including writing.
In addition to writing (content, verbiage, grammar, and style), Stephen Page addresses such topics as researching for content selection, building team consensus for effective practices, designing and managing forms associated with P&P, distributing and maintaining P&P, publishing and implementing P&P, and improving and measuring P&P for effectiveness.
Page writes in a conventional style and tells about his experiences with the application of a variety of disciplines allied with P&P. In short, this book is ideal for anyone wanting a book in the PDF format and the content is derived primarily from his current four books plus lots of new information. It is also ideal for learning issues and applying techniques from other disciplines to better manage, develop, and implement P&P content and organizational practices. Lastly this book is ideal for those seeking to apply traditional styles and formats to writing policies and procedures.
